the move-out/move-in has begun!

the faithful assistant, The Mahm, is back in town (yes, for the second time in about one month) helping me move my client out of my house and into her own. i posted the "before" pictures a little over a month ago (click here to see them) - of my house in complete, embarassing disarray - and now we are in the middle of making it look good again (and hopefully will come to resemble MY HOUSE again).

this week has been gloriously and breathlessly insane with the move-out/move-in and i will soon have updated, "after" pictures of all the work we will have done!

and now everyone, let's hear it for The Mahm!!!!

i almost thought it wouldn't happen.

our schedules are crazy. LOCO. geoff travels a lot, my work project is not finished yet, we are out of town a lot of weekends...
but it is going to happen.

amigos, we are taking a "babymoon", as some might call it.

my husband and i are fleeing the country in search of some warm, sandy quietude and a respite from our crazy lives, hoping to find some time together. just the two of us. enjoying one another and sleeping in as much as possible. because after may 23, 2010, we won't sleep in again (or be alone) for the rest of our earthly lives.

how are we able to do this? you might ask.

wellll.... we are just really blessed, to be honest with you.

for christmas, geoff's aunt carladyne gave us a week of her timeshare for us to go on a vacation - so our hotel is totally covered. and i have mucho points on my business credit card that we were able to cash in to cover our flights - so transportation is totally covered. big costs here, amigos.
thus... on february 21st, we are getting on a plane that will take us to mazatlan, mexico.

we will sunbathe.
we will be lazy.
we will have dinner out on this patio in the evenings:

we will enjoy each other.
we will go to the spa and get massages.
we will walk hand in hand down the streets of old town. and we will enjoy the very best (and my favorite) thing about mexico: their margaritas!! VIVA MARGARITAS!

oops, wait.
well, no margaritas for me. i got a little carried away...
maybe next year, slugger.

i cannot tell you how excited we are. and i don't think it has even really hit me yet. i have been so busy with work (and my pregnant self, really) that i have barely begun to realize that we leave for LA PLAYA! EL MAR! in just ONE WEEK.

we will be staying at el cid marina beach, but all of the el cid resorts in mazatlan (i think there are 4 total) will be our playground during our stay.

so MUCHAS GRACIAS goes out to dear aunt carladyne and i guess my business credit card company for making this dream "babymoon" possible.

we have this really cute journal that i am keeping track of my pregnancy in called the belly book. it has sections for each week so i can record how i am feeling, what the baby is doing, my food aversions... things like that. at the end of each trimester, there is a part where you can share your "final thoughts". geoff wrote in it the other night and i wanted to share what this new daddy wrote...

WOW...
i forgot how quickly 6 months flies by. engagement & now 1st and 2nd trimester. by the way now that those initial trimesters are over and we're changing the name... we're done "tri-ing", we're "due-ing"... OH OH OH . (here i must insert, for readers that may be wondering, that this is geoff's laugh). that's right, we have entered the "mester" where our future Miss Messer is due to arrive on the scene. man, will we ever be ready when she's ready? nursery, diapers, clothes, crib, name... OH SNAP... a name. what a huge responsibility. it's not like picking out a shirt she doesn't like that she can toss in the back of her closet or a cd she'll return to best buy. this will be a title that helps define who she is and who she will be referred to as for the entirety of her life. (no pressure... breathe man, BREATHE). one false step and we could scar her pshyche forever. example: we thought of the name honor - great name, noble, beautiful - right? that's what we thought until my superdad protective skills kicked in and i reverted back to the junior high locker room where i would overhear scrubby little thugs talking about wanting to get "on her", thus ruling out a seemingly wonderful name with therapy written all over it... WHEW! we have to think of every nickname, initials combination, sound-alike, and slang usage possible. my under armor efforts begin now, "i will protect this house!" which now includes my baby girl. so like i said, "tri-mester"... uh uh... it's "due-mester" and in due time our baby girl, the player to be named later, will join Team Us and whatever room she sleeps in, clothes she wears, diapers she messes, or name she has on her jersey it will all be done with great care.
baby girl, i can't wait to meet you! just know that until then, your momma and i will continue to pray for you daily to be filled with the joy of the lord, consumed with his compassion for others, and health and safety over your life.

why i get excited about gaining 14 pounds

goodbye second trimester!
hello achiness and welcome to uncomfortable-land.
weight gain: 14 pounds so far (gained 5 1/2 since last visit)
tummy: 38 inches (gained 2 inches)

uterus: 25 inches (just in case you wanted to know)

baby moves: i'm not the only one who can feel them anymore... and last night, we could actually see her move!

mental health: mushy & forgetful. and don't even ask me to remember anything. oh and i'm really forgetful lately. on tuesday we had a doctor's appointment for our 25 week checkup. all is well! LL's hearbeat is at a solid 160 - the doc said that was great - and i have gained almost 6 more pounds since the last time i was weighed. i am relishing this time in my life that i get enthusiastic about gaining weight... how weird is that?! i eat the donuts for you, Little Lady.

and you know geoff had to take his 25 week pic at the doctor's office too...

for all of you who are wondering what kind of progress the mahm and i made while she was here last week, you're kind of looking at it. (although this particular pic was taken on a girls weekend trip to eureka springs, arkansas for the jazz festival in 2008 - i just thought it was pertinent.)
we got a lot of organizing done which felt great, but not a lot of move-out-my-client's-stuff progress was made. i thought we would be able to do more but the house is simply not ready yet. although things are organized enough and ready to be loaded into the car the moment the house is ready...
then, and only then, will you see the "after" photos.

this weekend i got to hang out with my sister (in-law), sarah, and my niece, hannah in lawrence KS while our boys were in colorado skiing for geoff's birthday. we had a grand time being girls, eating fondue for dessert one night and enjoying lawrence - which is a pretty cool town that i have not really gotten to experience until now.

one of the days i was there, we went to the natural science museum on KU's campus - and in a photo-op posed just for grandma nancy, here is your soon-to-be favorite pic of your first grandchild:

thanks to all of you who voted for geoff in the louisiana hot sauce commercial contest! at the close of voting on the final day, he was in the lead with the most votes! we don't know yet if he won the contest - the company reviews all of the entries and then we will find out who the overall winner will be. (but seriously, how could they not select geoff's video??? it was by far the best...)

So, he enlisted me to act in a video for a contest advertising LA Hot Sauce. Voting ends on Jan. 31st and every vote counts. what interior design looks like

yes, folks.

this is what owning your own interior design business run out of your home looks like.

our house has become a storage unit for all of my client's orders that cannot be housed in a basement or garage (upholstery, sheets & towels, accessories and the like).

so in turn, my house is quite embarassing in some places.

but i have decided to make it public, to put it all out there because, praise jesus, these will soon be "before" photos.

(big grin)

above you will see exhibit a is our laundry room: stocked with box upon box of a large towel and bedding order.

exhibits b and c are my office: one wonders how i work in there at all. there are some sexy little hip moves i have to execute in order to make it to my desk around all the crap...
and note the fabulous stroller - our "baby gift" stuff has had to go in my office too, since the poor Little Lady (LL) doesn't have a room yet.

but tomorrow is a good day.

tomorrow The Mahm arrives.

The Mahm will be employed this week and part of next week as a design assistant of lindsay todd design, llc.
she will be helping me move my clients in to their new house (see my design blog, link on the right)...

it will be a fantastic week and my home will start to feel like my own again.

no more boxes stacked on boxes (boxen? anyone?), no more stacks of coffee table books as tall as i am, no more pathways that have to be carved out for guests to reach their bed...

and the LL will have the beginnings of a room of her own.

my dear friend, missy stopped by today with her oldest, lilly anne.it was fun to see how our bellies are different but yet the same... we are both 23 weeks today! what a blessing to have a close friend to go through pregnancy with. even though we live 537 miles apart...lilly and i just got done making snowflakes out of coffee filters , so we were rewarding ourselves with fruit snacks...

i was looking through some wedding photos today and got a huge smile on my face and warm fuzzies inside...
what a bunch of fun people this kid will be getting as grandparents!
i found multiple pictures of both sets of parents having a blast on the dance floor at our awesome wedding (am i right folks? was it not the best/funnest wedding ever?) and looking great doing it. geoff and i have been so blessed by the parents we have and we are both so excited to see what grandparenting our child will bring out in our parents.
(geoff's parents are already in the "grand" role but it will be my parents' first gig.)

this, my friends, is a momentous event you are witnessing.
every single time i have attempted to make cornbread in the last, well lifetime, i have ended up with another FAIL mark on my cooking career.
BUT last night was a first. it was not a FAIL.
it was an "I WON"! i BEAT the cornbread, the recipe and my oven!
and my cornbread was awesome, peeps.
melt-in-your-mouth delicious.
perfectly soft.
right amount of sweet.
gorgeous green jalapeno chunks.
it will now be known as "lindsay's cornbread recipe" and i will never stray again.

we won't wonder what color to paint the baby's room.

we won't shop for neutral-only baby clothing or toys or accessories.

we will start talking about names.

we will start picking out nursery furniture and bedding.

we will talk about the baby as "he" or "she".

we will have a completely different mindset than before.

we will KNOW.

and that makes it THE most exciting day.

what i saw when i woke up today

i know for some of you, this might be a normal winter occurence. one of these people is my husband. you grew up looking at the snow in the winter and loved the rare days when you had school cancelled because of snow. you skiied on it, sledded down it, and made some pretty darn awesome snowballs with it.

but there are some of us to whom snow is completely foreign. we never had "snow days". if we did, it was because some rancher saw one white flake, called the news station, and then no one in central texas left their house all day because it was "snowing!". trust me, folks, this is how it works in the south.

so today i am loving (and will love) every moment i look out the window and see the snow falling. it is truly beautiful. there is something so magnificently serene about it, watching it fall. so keep coming, you glorious frozen white flakes.

and to continue a great holiday season... we headed to the warmer weather!

on the 20th, we drove from kansas city down to austin to spend the rest of the holiday with my family. while we were there, we did a few "musts" that you have to do while in austin during christmas. the first was going to see the lights on 37th street. each house on 37th street (well these days, almost every house) is decorated with lights, and not just 4 or 5 strands or in a "normal" way. check it out:

on christmas morning, we woke up and "did" our stockings first - my brother had to leave to go to church late morning, so we decided to save the rest of the gifts for later that afternoon. stockings are always a blast in my family, mainly because my dad goes to town in this store near the UT campus in austin called toy joy. we receive all kinds of old school candies & gum, and toys that wind up and make you laugh until it hurts, yet have no other purpose on this planet.

thank you dad, for being so fun and totally random.

(as for the photo above, don't ask me why i look so confused and both reed and geoff are dying laughing...)

christmas in kansas

what a christmas we had...

we first got to go to kansas for a couple days and see geoff's family. we celebrated his grandpa's 94th (!) birthday and his 73rd (!) anniversary with geoff's grandma (did i get these numbers right, terry & nancy?!)

the next evening we went over to matt (geoff's brother) and sarah's for "christmas" to open presents and basically watch hannah go nuts over her presents. (tip for those with kids/nieces/nephews: wrap their gifts in paper, not gift bags. it is so much more fun for them - and you - as they get to tear away all the paper!) among the things we got hannah, and the gift we were most excited to give her (especially after dinner the night before when we saw a santa down at the plaza in kansas city and hannah told him she wanted a computer), was a "computer". it is this little pink kid computer we found and i had told geoff we had to get it because she is always wanting to help daddy with his computer - not always a good idea...

so she tore away the multicolored snowflake paper to reveal, "A -PUTER!! GUYS I GOT A -PUTER! WOW! WOW! A -PUTER!" i think that was the best part of geoff's and my christmas in kansas.

later, as she was typing furiously at her little pink keyboard, we asked her what she was doing. she replied, "just emailin' to see what's up with aunt rosie..." when she was done with that, she asked each of us if we wanted to skype with her and rosie... or the squirrel.

soooo...
last night, the hubs and i were doing a little christmas shopping (can you tell who we were shopping for by the aisle we were in? if your name is hannah and your uncle's name is gt and your aunt's name is lala... look away!) at my own little personal heaven, target, when we stumbled across something quite interesting...

yes, my friends, barbie now enjoys martinis while playing with kids.
now, i grew up loving my barbie dolls (so i am not hating on barbie here) and was a little shocked that they now include a fancy blue martini glass in clothing and accessory sets.
are they teaching kids that early on that drinking is super cool?
and if they are playing with alcohol as early as 3 (barbies are for 3+ fyi) when are they going to expect to partake or share with mom & dad? REALLY?!
i mean if barbie does it...
too soon, mattel. way too soon.
all i could think as we walked away was "i am SO blogging about this."

we have long struggled with the christmas tree topper situation.
over the last few years, we have searched high and low but never found the one that was meant to be on the team us tree.
eventually we settled on and purchased one last year, but as we got out all of our christmas decorations last night we could not find it anywhere.

luckily we had an alternative for our tree topper...

I kid you not, as Wifey & I are driving to our 4 month baby appointment, I stop at a red light and have my future staring me in the face. I am convinced that I must begin training now to prepare my gag reflex for our future child's early contibutions to the world. Although Wifey finds my "gagflex" endearing now, I know it will quickly lose it's charm when she ends up with 2 messes to clean up rather than just one. To begin with, I think I'll start with a few reps of standing near dumpsters for 1 min. increments and work up to extended times in public porta potties. Stage 2 will consist of simulations (i.e. handling "gooey substances" like chili and potato salad while blindfolded in a freshly fertilized stable as Wifey blasts me in the face with spray from a water hose...or something like that). Stage 3...Game On! My mantra during this workout..."I will not spew on our baby".

alrighty friends, you are seemingly just as anxious as the baby daddy and i are.

we find out the gender of the baby on january 12. i know, i know. it seems like forever, but sadly those medical people won't do another ultrasound until then.

BUT we do have our next appointment tomorrow for our 4 week checkup - any ideas out there on how we can con them into doing one so we can find out the sex before christmas?? i know you are all dying to shower us wirth loads of gender-specific gifts for the holiday...

now i won't name names, but some of you are getting pretty hostile (mom/MAHM) because i have not posted any photos of me/my belly in some time. and with good reason - we've been slackers. so i went and took some (rather terrible ones) myself just to appease for the time being. in the meantime, i promise i will get my baby daddy to take some better ones. but for now (shhh, shhh, it's ok)...any one know when i will start to show? is there really a baby in there? i mean come on...
i guess i will have many moons to look large, so i won't complain.
(you may be asking yourself, "how does she look so smooth and held-in to those jeans?" that would be thanks to my sweet friend, leah, who sent me the BE band - the best gift so far! i am still able to wear all of my jeans, unbuttoned, with my BE band holding me in... and holding my pants up because they aren't even zipped. now everyone will know my secrets...)

so, thanksgiving in colorado was great. we celebrated my birthday on the first day we got there (geoff even took me out late night to get me a chocolate cake from the supermarket, when p.f. chang's got all of our to-go dessert orders right but mine. i swear i'll never eat there again as long as i live... ) we also went to the art museum in downtown denver (which was designed by a very famous architect, so for a design nerd like me that was a completed-mecca trip!) and we got to see our two-and-a-half year old niece hannah get on skis for the first time. there were some pretty proud peeps on the mountain that day... and a lot of paparazzi.

to touch or not to touch...

so yesterday, i had my first random, unwarranted belly touch. it was lovingly performed by our neighbor who is super sweet and probably just as excited as our parents are about me being pregnant (seriously, when i told her she cried).
it was a little weird, i must say. i have always thought it would be no big deal when someone felt the need to touch my pregnant belly... but at the stage i am now (i just feel like i have developed a gut) it was a little awkward.
and this stage is odd. a stranger would not look at me and think, "oh, she's pregnant". belly has not grown that much yet. they would just decide i had packed on a few pounds around the middle, or really hated doing sit-ups & crunches.
so instead of being the woman that says, "ooooh, why dontcha keep that hand to yourself, crazy lady?" or take said stranger's hand off my belly and place it on their own, i have decided to grin and bear it. people are apparently going to do it anyways, so i might as well enjoy the attention... while it is still all about me.

lots of people said that once you hear the baby's heartbeat, it's all over for your heart from there.
not so! once we saw our baby's face, little body, legs and arms and HANDS! - that's when it was over for us. new life is truly amazing.

so it's probably about time we updated our blog. i mean, we could wait until it had been an entire year, but what the heck?

team us is having a baby (well, i am the one who will be doing the having) which means we have to keep family, friends and the rest of the world in-the-know with what's going on with us.

as of today, november 9, i am 12 weeks and 2 days. geoff informed me this morning that our little junior is the size of a lime. that's huge! we went from a fig to a lime in barely 1.5 weeks! oh what an overachieving little fruit...

tomorrow at 10 am we have our first doctor's appointment (yes, i said first) with the hopefully-lovely-and-amazing dr. kristy mccall. we'll get our first ultrasound/sonogram (what's the difference anyways?) and get to hear junior's heartbeat!

and now all you lucky (and courteous) readers of the team us blog get to see wifey's bare belly at 9 weeks (our 12 week pic coming soon). and yes, moms, we will be posting these every month so you can keep track of how fat i'll be getting.

geoff & i just got back from the mountains of colorado (sadly, without hurley) for thanksgiving 2007. we spent a week in winter park at the todd's timeshare, the colony, with terry & nancy, matt & sarah & hannah. and guess what? i, lindsay blair todd, skiied! i got some coaching from terry and headed down the slope, green of course - did pretty well too. geoff snowboarded, for the first time in a long time, and did an amazing job. my birthday fell on thanksgiving day this year so we all celebrated together wednesday night at a fondue place in winter park. now we are nice and sore and headed back to missouri tomorrow, stopping in lawrence to pick up hurley girl saturday afternoon - and later we'll cheer on the jayhawks as they take on mizzou! it was a wonderful thanksgiving for team us and hopefully for all of you as well! and go jayhawks!
